Who we are

Europasinfonie is a project of Dresdner Sinfoniker e.V., a registered non-profit association based in Dresden, Germany (Amtsgericht Dresden, VR 3168).

Founded in 1997, the Dresdner Sinfoniker are one of Germany’s leading ensembles for contemporary orchestral music. We create concert formats that place orchestral music where it is not expected: on the roofs of high-rise buildings, across the fortified border between countries, in real-time connection between continents. Our work has been awarded diverse prizes and has taken us from Dresden to London, Istanbul, Mexico City, Riyadh and many more.

What we stand for

As a non-profit association we promote contemporary music, cultural education and European dialogue through art. We commission new works, we open orchestral music to audiences who do not see themselves in a concert hall, and we build the technical means that let musicians play together across borders.

Our work is financed by public cultural funding, by grants such as the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, and by private donations and corporate partnerships. We do not distribute profits. Every contribution goes into the artistic and technical realisation of our projects.

Europasinfonie

Europasinfonie is our largest project to date: in June 2027, musicians from twelve European countries will perform one symphony together, live and in real time, connected over fibre optic networks across distances of up to 2,200 kilometres. Eleven partner orchestras and choirs join the Dresdner Sinfoniker to bring Europasinfonie to the stage — among them the Athens State Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic Choir and Sinfonia Varsovia. Twelve institutions from twelve European countries, each contributing one instrumental or choral section, come together to form a single distributed orchestra. The project is co-funded by the European Union.
