Andrzej Ojczenasz, Damian Dziweńka and Francesco Darmanin have been selected to compose new works for Europasinfonie’s distributed, real-time orchestra — chosen from more than 220 submissions by an international jury.

Andrzej Ojczenasz, Damian Dziweńka and Francesco Darmanin have been selected to receive the three composition commissions for Europasinfonie — chosen by an international jury from more than 220 submissions across 26 countries.

The three composers were presented today at a press conference at MESSE DRESDEN, joining live by video from their respective countries to speak about their musical ideas and the extraordinary task ahead: composing for an orchestra that performs not in a single place, but distributed across Europe.

Two composers will each write a 15- to 20-minute work for large symphony orchestra; the third will compose a work for orchestra and choir. In line with Europasinfonie’s commitment to supporting emerging talent, at least one commission had to go to a composer aged 35 or under — in the end, all three winners qualify: Andrzej Ojczenasz (34), Damian Dziweńka (32) and Francesco Darmanin (30).

The jury, chaired by Musical Director Andrea Molino and Dresdner Sinfoniker Intendant Markus Rindt, met in Dresden on 28 and 29 September — for many of the participating orchestras and choirs, the first opportunity to meet in person.

Tom Pipeleers, jury member representing Brussels Philharmonic: “What I focused on during the process was the quality of the way of writing and the score itself, as well as the balance between the instrumental groups and the thoughts, ideas and concept behind the composition. It will be exciting to see how the winners develop their compositions during the next months. I am really happy about having three young winners and I hope this project will help to launch their careers.”

The three new works will receive their world premieres in June 2027 at MESSE DRESDEN.
